Colonel Michael Place

COL Place

Colonel Michael Place entered the Army as the Distinguished Military Graduate from The Johns Hopkins University in 1987 where he was also recognized as a George C. Marshall Award recipient. After medical school at The Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences from 1987-1991, Colonel Place completed his internship and Family Practice residency as Chief Resident at Martin Army Community Hospital, Fort Benning, Georgia. He then served as the Regimental Surgeon of the 75th Ranger Regiment, deploying to Operation Uphold Democracy in Haiti. Other assignments include staff Family Physician, Evans Army Community Hospital, Fort Carson, Colorado; Commander, Medical Task Force 10, SFOR5, during the Kosovo Air Campaign; Instructor and Director, Medical Operations Branch, Leader Training Center, AMEDD Center and School where he became the first physician director of the AMEDD Captains Career Courses. Colonel Place then deployed to northern Iraq as the Division Surgeon of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) during Operation Iraqi Freedom and subsequently served as the Deputy Commander for Clinical Services, Blanchfield Army Community Hospital, Fort Campbell, Kentucky. COL Place most recently served at the Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board after an assignment as the Command Surgeon, US Army Cadet Command.
A graduate of the AMEDD Officer Basic and Advanced Courses and the Army Command and General Staff College, Colonel Place has received numerous awards, including the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service and Army Achievement Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Kosovo Campaign Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon and the NATO Medal. He proudly wears the Expert Field Medical Badge, Flight Surgeon and Parachutist Badge. Colonel Place persuaded the former Jacqueline S. McDonald to marry him in 1991.


Command Sergeant Major Winston J. Young Jr

CSM Young

Command Sergeant Major Winston J. Young Jr. was born in Baltimore, Maryland and entered the Army January 1986. He attended One Station Unit Training at Fort Bliss TX, and graduated as a 91B Combat Medic in San Antonio TX. CSM Young has served in the 1st Armored Division Ansbach Germany, 13th COSCOM Fort Hood TX, 3d Infantry Division (Mech) Schweinfurt Germany, 44th Medical Brigade Fort Bragg NC, 4th U.S. Cavalry Regiment Schweinfurt Germany, 1st Infantry Division Schweinfurt Germany, III CORPS Fort Carson CO, 18thMedical Command Korea, 25th Infantry Division Schofield Barracks HI, and the 4th Infantry Division Fort Carson CO. CSM Young also served as a 1SG in one detachment, and medical three companies to include the 10th Combat Support Hospital.
His military education includes all levels of the Noncommissioned Officer Education System, the First Sergeant Course, Basic Airborne Training Course, Air Assault Training Course and host of other professional development courses.
CSM Young’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (2nd OLC), the Meritorious Service Medal (4th OLC), the Army Commendation Medal (5th OLC), the Army Achievement Medal (4th OLC), the Army Good Conduct Medal (7th Award), the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Korea Defense Service Medal, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the Non Commissioned Officer Professional Service Ribbon (numeral 3), the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Combat Action Badge, the Expert Field Medical Badge, the Airborne Badge, and the Air Assault Badge.
CSM Young is a recipient of the Red Newman Award and is currently attending Excelsior University pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Studies.
