Mission

The 2nd Medical Detachment (Forward Surgical), will provide a rapidly deployable resuscitative surgical capability forward in a designated theatre of operations in order to conserve the fighting strength.

2. Activated 1 August 1940 at Fort Sam Houston, Texas
3. Reorganized and redesignated 20 December 1944 as the 2d Medical Service Detachment
4. Redesignated 21 March 1945 as the 2d Medical Laboratory
5. Inactivated 31 October 1945 at Camp Siebert, Alabama
6. Redesignated 18 April 1951 as the 2d Central Dental Laboratory
7. Activated 1 May 1951 at Fort Sam Houston, Texas
8. Reorganized and redesignated 9 January 1953 as the 2d Medical Detachment
9. Inactivated 30 April 1971 in Germany
10. Activated 16 December 1980 in Germany
11. Inactivated 15 July 1992 in Germany
12. Activated 16 October 2000 at Fort Carson, Colorado
