Mountain Medics
"To the Top"
January News
January was a big month for the Mountain Medics of the 10th Combat Support Hospital (CSH). We started off the month by ending the Holiday leave period and getting back into the swing of things here on Fort Carson. From talking to Soldiers around the CSH, it seems that everybody enjoyed the time with their families and friends all over the country.
Shortly after Holiday Leave ended, it felt like things were back to normal with an intense paced work day. A lot of transition and change occurred between the companies with Change of Commands and Change of Responsibilities in Bravo Company. Capt. Bacsa is now the new commander of Bravo Company with her new First Sergeant, 1st Sgt. Davis. The former commander and 1st Sgt., Capt. Ramirez and 1st Sgt. Pierce, are now working with the Headquarters, 10th CSH and DIV respectively. Capt. Ramirez is the Health Information Systems Officer (HISO) and Master Sgt. Pierce is now at Division bringing his vast knowledge to a higher level.
In addition to the above, Alpha Company said goodbye to 1st Sgt. Francis after 18 months and a deployment to Afghanistan. She will surely be missed, but 1st Sgt. Lawrence Veihl, the new 1st Sgt., is motivated and excited at the opportunity to help mentor and guide new Soldiers.
On Jan. 17, 2013, the 10th CSH hosted the 2013 Winter Formal at the Antlers Hilton Hotel in downtown Colorado Springs. It was a beautiful evening with lots of camaraderie and esprit de corps in the room. Soldiers and spouses were allowed to get dressed up for the evening and enjoy time with their brothers and sisters in arms. Overall, it was a fantastic evening and the general consensus is that it was one of the best Social events the 10th CSH has ever hosted.
Finally, we said goodbye to Col. Michael L. Place after nearly three years in command. His leadership, mentorship, and guidance for all the 10th CSH Soldiers will truly be missed and we wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors. Col. James R. Andrews is the new Hospital Commander, coming from the National Regional Medical Command in Washington D.C. He brings a vast amount of knowledge to the team and a change of pace which is always a good experience for Soldiers.
All in all, it was a tremendous month for the Mountain Medics who got back into the swing of things after Holiday Leave and welcomed new leadership to the team. The Winter Formal was a great success and Soldiers enjoyed their evenings very much. The Combat Support Hospital is only looking forward and excited about the coming months.
