CSM Barry R. Oakes enlisted in the United States Army in October of 1988 and attended Military Police One Station Unit Training at Fort McClellan, Alabama.
Command Sergeant Major Oakes has served in numerousleadership positions to include: Team Leader, Squad Leader, Small Group Leader, Drill Sergeant, Senior Drill Sergeant, Company and Brigade Operations Sergeant, First Sergeant and Command Sergeant Major.
His Assignments include: 977th Military Police Company, Fort Riley, Kansas; HHC, 18th Military Police Brigade, Frankfurt, Germany; 284th Military Police Company, Frankfurt, Germany; 170th Military Police Company, Fort Lewis, Washington; I Corps Noncommissioned Officer Academy, Fort Lewis, Washington; 55th Military Police Company, Yongsan, Korea; HHC, 14th Military Police Brigade, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; Company C, 787th Military Police Battalion, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; 527th Military Police Company, Giessen/Hohenfels, Germany; 709th Military Police Battalion (Rear), Grafenwoehr, Germany; 787th Military Police Battalion, Fort Leonard Wood Missouri.
His Operational/Combat deployments include, Operation Bright Star, Egypt; Operation Provide Comfort, Iraq; Operation Provide Promise, Croatia; Operation Sustain Liberty, Panama; Operation Iraqi Freedom, Baghdad, Iraq; Operation Enduring Freedom, Torkham, Afghanistan.
His military education includes, the Primary Leadership Development Course, Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course, Equal Opportunity Leader Course, Small Group Instructor Trainer Course, Master Fitness Trainer Course, Drill Sergeant School, Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Course, First Sergeant Course, and the Sergeants Major Course.
His civilian education includes an Associate of Arts from Central Texas College.
