1.5 Organization

This Installation Design Guide is organized to facilitate the preparation and execution of projects to improve the visual image of the installation and ensure design conforms to Army standards to include sustainability.

The IDG has seven main categories, which are broken into sections to address specific aspects of the IDG.

  • Summary of Changes. A place for quick reference to updates that have been made to the IDG.

  • User’s Guide. Instructs the user how best to view, navigate, and search the IDG.

  • Executive Summary. Describes the purpose, background, and methodology of the IDG.

  • Background. This category contains:
    - Section 1 - the Introduction to the IDG;
    - Section 2 - the Installation Design Guide Process and Implementation plan;
    - Section 3 - Design Guide Analysis Material; and
    - Section 4 - the installation Profile.

  • Visual Themes and Zones. This category contains:
    - Section 5, which addresses the development of the installation visual themes and zones. This section addresses the assets and liabilities of each zone, and offers recommendations for the liabilities.
    Section 6, Improvement Projects, lists the recommendations in Section 5 as specific projects.

  • Standards, this category contains:
    - Section 7 - Site Planning Design Standards;
    - Section 8 - Building- Building Design Standards;
    - Section 9 - Circulation Design Standards;
    - Section 10 - Landscape Design Standards;
    - Section 11 - Site Elements Design Standards;
    - Section 12 - Force Protection Design Standards; and

  • Appendices. The Appendices is a compilation of various Fort Carson specific requirements. Items such as the plant list and the Exterior Color Requirements live in the Appendicies. This section also contains a list of references needed to complete a construction project at Fort Carson, for example, where to get a dig permit, who to call to get drawings, how to connect to existing utilities.
