Building Design

Architecture has the unique ability to create individual character areas and various functional study zones.  Building design should also work toward a balance between unity and diversity.  The following objectives must be met in working toward this goal:

  • Designs must be responsive to the unique influences of climate, topography, and other regional design considerations.

  • The use of form, material, scale, and color must be distinct in each zone and continue the existing pattern.

  • Building design must establish focal or reference points throughout the installation.

  • The hierarchy of military order and function must be represented in the visual environment.

  • Construction materials and systems must be selected based on their appropriate application, their compatibility with the area, and their ability to reduce future maintenance liabilities.

  • Buildings must be constructed to meet the requirements of a LEED™ silver building.
