3.2.4 Site Systems
 |
USE SITE ELEMENTS TO CREATE VISUAL UNITY |
The goal for site systems is to improve the installation's visual environment by acting as "common threads" and as post-wide unifying elements. This continuity of expression will lend subtle background unity within the diversity of the other three major design disciplines. This goal of continuity generates the following objectives:
- Elements of the circulation systems must be visually reinforced and readily distinguishable.
- Systems elements must be completely integrated into a comprehensive design in order to provide a rational, appealing, and safe network.
- Continuity must be provided through the post's signage system. This system must communicate information in a clear, attractive, and effective way, and should reflect the military values of discipline and order.
- Street lighting fixtures and light levels should reinforce the functional hierarchy of the street network. Light levels should be appropriate for the intended need for lighting the area. Avoid providing more light than is needed.
- Lighting must provide an inviting and safe pedestrian environment at night.
- Utility systems must be aligned, consolidated, and designed to reduce clutter and other negative visual impacts.
