There are basic design principles, such as scale, form, and function, which define visual elements, such as vistas, building edges, and activity nodes that develop the character of the element.
The assessment and classification of the visual elements follow basic design principles describing "good" and "not so good" design. Their assessment becomes the design criteria used to determine the visual character of the installation.
