Fort Carson and the PCMS contain substantial wetland/riparian resources. The National Wetlands Inventory lists forty categories of wetlands totaling 1,076 acres (436 ha) on Fort Carson, and 4,776 acres (1,934 ha) in thirty-one categories at the PCMS. Click on the Wetlands link to learn more. All wetlands and Waters of the U.S. (any channel that can carry water) are protected under Section 404 of the Clean Water Act. Any disturbance of those areas requires compliance coordination with the associated regulators prior to the undertaking. The process of obtaining compliance can take as much as six months.
