CHEYENNE MOUNTAIN

Fort Carson, The Mountain Post, is an Army post located south of Colorado Springs in El Paso County, between Interstate 25 and Highway 115.  This post is recognized as one of the world's premier locations to lead, train, and maintain while preparing soldiers to win on the battlefield.  Fort Carson comprises 137,403 acresPinon Canyon is the maneuver site 150 miles southeast of Fort Carson, and covers 235,300 acres.  Fort Carson is a power projection platform that supports ten different units with over 15,800 active military personnel.  Fort Carson is home to over 900 buildings encompassing 7.8 million square feet of building space.

The cantonment area of Fort Carson is located in the northern part of the installation.  Fort Carson houses a complete tank engine depot maintenance and dynamometer testing facility.  The Butts Army Air Field (BAAF) is an active runway and hangar facility used primarily by Army rotary-wing aircraft.

In 2006, Fort Carson became home to the 4th Infantry Division and Training Support Division West, First U.S. Army.  Division West oversees training and mobilization of Reserve and National Guard units in 21 states west of the Mississippi River.
