The attitude of an area is the overall look and feel of the area or the mood and ambiance that the area projects.  The Logistics & Industrial Visual Zone attitude is currently:

  • Industrial.
  • Work zone.
  • Vehicular in scale.
  • Storage.

 

5.3.1.1.2 Elements

The elements of a structure or an area are the pieces and parts that are composed to create the whole.  They set the attitude, style, and visual perception of the facility.

The following is a list of elements that can be found, or should be used, in the Logistics & Industrial Visual Zone:

  • Overhead doors.
  • Massive buildings.
  • Fencing.
  • Pavement.
  • Banding to break up massing.
  • Flat to low sloped roofs on large facilities; pitched roofs on smaller facilities.
  • Daylighting elements on industrial facilities, windows in overhead doors, skylights, clerestory windows.   Detailed information on daylighting is available in Appendix D.
5.3.1.1.3 Materials

The materials used in this visual zone shall correlate with the visual theme that is set for the type of facility in question.

See Section 8 Building Design, Exterior Materials for the material colors that are to be used in this visual zone.

Material types and colors for new facilities, renovations, and additions should coordinate or match those on adjacent facilities or on the existing facility being worked on.  Deviations need to be approved by DPW at the 35% design phase.

Where possible, material selection should be guided by the LEED™ rating system and by the requirements necessary to attain the relevant LEED™ credits.  See Appendix E for LEED™ scoring details pertaining to material selection.
