5.3.2.1.2 Elements
The elements of a structure or an area are the pieces and parts that are composed to create the whole. They set the attitude, style, and visual perception of the facility. The following is a list of elements that can be found, or should be used, in the Logistics & Industrial Visual Zone:
5.3.2.1.3 Materials
The materials used in this visual zone shall correlate with the visual theme that is set for the type of facility in question. Industrial Facilities Materials Administration Facilities Materials See Section 8 Building Design, Exterior Materials for the material colors that are to be used in this visual zone. This visual zone has been broken into sub-zones that respond to the different materials and colors used in the various parts of this zone on the installation. Material types and colors for new facilities, renovations, and additions should coordinate or match those on adjacent facilities or on the existing facility being worked on. Deviations need to be approved by DPW at the 35% design phase. The portions of this zone that are not broken out into a sub-zone typically contain industrial facilities. These facilities are consistent in form, proportion, and color and should be kept as such. The industrial facilities do not necessarily coordinate with the adjacent sub-zone categories but are coordinated with each other. Zone B1 includes the large tenants on the base, such as the 10th Special Forces and the Army National Guard. Each of the tenants has established a visual theme for the portion the installation that they occupy. Their visual theme should be continued as new facilities are constructed, renovations are made, and additions are added. Zone B2 contains the troop areas that are north of Prussman Boulevard. The red brick, CMU wainscot, and sloped green metal roof and trim material scheme has been established and needs to be continued throughout the area on all new facilities, remodels, and additions. Zone B3 contains the troop areas that are south of Prussman Boulevard. The tan brick and dark brown metal trim and roof color scheme is engrained in this area and is applied to all the various facilities. This area is fairly outdated and in need of repair. New facilities should continue the established color scheme but new materials and combinations of materials in the color pallet should be introduced to give the area an updated feel. Where possible, material selection should be guided by the LEED™ rating system and by the requirements necessary to attain the relevant LEED™ credits. See Appendix D and Appendix E.
