8.12 Buildings Appurtenances

retaining walls that coordinate with the adjacent facility

Screen walls and retaining walls shall be incorporated as integral design elements of the building to which they are physically related.  Forms, materials, textures, and colors shall match exactly those used elsewhere on the adjacent building.  These walls shall be subject to applicable guidelines of the zone in which they are located.

All "modern" building appurtenances such as mechanical and electrical equipment, antennas, and similar devices shall be either screened from view or incorporated into building design elements such that their identity is not readily apparent.

The materials and colors identified in these guidelines have, in a few cases, letters in parentheses at the end of the material or color description.  This is most commonly used for brick, concrete masonry units, and paint.  The letters have been used to avoid lengthy explanations within each guideline, and represent specific material/color sources as per the following:

  • (R) represents Robinson Brick Company, Denver, CO 80217.

  • (S) represents Summit Brick Company, Pueblo, CO 81001.

  • (CL) represents Clalite, Inc., Denver, CO 80216.

  • (CC) represents Colorado Concrete Manufacturing Company, Colorado Springs, CO 80901.

  • (PPG) represents PPG Industries, Inc., Pittsburgh, PA 15272.

  • (FSC) represents Federal Standard Colors, Federal Standard 595a.

  • (TW) represents Trenwyth Industries, Inc., Emigsville, PA 17318.

  • (CT) represents Certainteed, Valley Forge, PA 19482.

The above sources are not intended to be proprietary relative to either material or color, but rather represent a way of identifying and describing exact materials and colors, which may be matched by other manufacturers.
