8.14.9.6 Industrial Facilities

This hybrid building type has several functions that impact the interior design. These facilities usually have a combination of office space and large warehouse, storage, or maintenance spaces.  Easily maintained finishes are critical to the longevity of these buildings.

The offices should be designed with durable materials, furniture, and lighting in all locations.  Civilians frequently visit these buildings, so the interior should provide a positive impression.  The entrance lobby should have a welcoming feel with a reception desk and seating.

The color scheme should be neutral with accent colors introduced in the lobby and throughout the interior.  Clear directive signage is important for departments, offices, and support rooms.  Standard fluorescent lighting should be used for efficiency, with flexible lighting provided at large open spaces.  Key elements to making the interior portion of the industrial facilities successful are:

  • Offices, high bay warehouse, and maintenance areas.

  • Provide civilian visitors with positive first impression.

  • Durable materials, furniture, and lighting.

  • Neutral color scheme with somber accent colors.

  • Economical and durable finishes at large open spaces.

  • Flexible layout to meet changing requirements.
