8.14.9 Interior Design GuidanceThe interior design criteria for ten different types of buildings have been identified, and are provided on the following pages. The elements that affect the quality and design of interior space include: • Color While none of these elements are more important than the other, all are subject to compromises, since one area of design may be in conflict with the goal of another. The creation of successful interior spaces is the result of a decision making process that determines priorities and critical adjacencies for each space. Furniture, carpet, paint, etc all have environmentally preferable options that should always be considered and will help with achieving LEED™ certifications. Interior spaces should also accommodate space for recycling collection containers, in offices and in centralized, well-marked locations.
