11.3.1.2 Seating Walls

Site walls such as screen walls, fixed planters, retaining walls, and similar site related structures should be incorporated as integral parts of the landscape design or as functional design elements of the buildings exterior envelope.  The IDG neither requires nor prohibits use of these site walls.  However, wherever such walls are used, their design character, forms, materials, textures, and colors shall match those used elsewhere on the adjacent building.  These walls shall be subject to all applicable guidelines of the visual zone in which they are located.  See Visual Zones of the IDG.

11.3.1.2.1 Seating Wall Location

Wherever possible, seating should be incorporated into planter boxes or retaining walls, particularly at building entrance area.  Seating walls should be integrated into the overall area design and the pedestrian circulation system.

11.3.1.2.2 Seating Wall Design

Seating walls should generally be between 18” and 22” high, 12” to 18” deep, and constructed of textured concrete, brick, or stone in a manner to complement or match the materials of the adjacent buildings or the landscape design.

11.3.1.2.3 Seating Wall Standard
