11.3.10 BICYCLE PARKING
11.3.10.1 Bicycle Parking Locations
 |
bicycle parking |
Bicycle parking facilities should be provided at strategic terminal points and activity nodes. These terminal points should include selected building entries, parks, playgrounds, schools, and community center areas.
- Bicycle parking areas should be located outside of, but adjacent to, the normal pedestrian pathways and bike paths.
- Parking facilities should always be located in an area of high potential visual supervision.
- Facilities must be conveniently located near major destination points, adjacent to main building entries, and wherever possible, within fifty feet (50) of the terminal point.
- Facilities shall be located a maximum distance of fifty feet (50') from main entrances of major buildings in all functional zones.
- Parking facilities shall be located a maximum distance of one hundred feet (100') from all public school buildings.
- Parking facilities shall be located a maximum distance of one hundred feet (100') from recreational facilities such as the golf course clubhouse and similar buildings at Iron Horse Park. They shall also be located a maximum distance of one hundred feet (I 00') from heavily used outdoor sports fields.
- Parking facilities shall be located a maximum distance of fifty feet (50') from all children's playgrounds.
- Parking facilities shall be located in plaza/courtyard areas.
- Parking facilities shall be located near any other activity "nodes," where a consistent concentration of bicycle traffic dictates the need.
11.3.10.2 Bicycle Parking Facility Design
A ribbon type tubular aluminum bike rack with an anodized dark bronze finish is the post standard. Bicycle storage areas near barracks should be covered.
The actual number of spaces at each rack shall be based upon anticipated and requested need and shall be determined at time of facility design. LEED™ credits can be obtained if bicycle parking spaces are provided for 5% of the building occupants. Parking facilities shall be located such that additional spaces may be provided in the future.
Parking facilities must allow the entire bicycle frame to be anchored, rather than a wheel alone, since the secured wheel can easily be detached from the frame and the remainder of the bicycle removed.
