11.3.14 mAIL BOXES

11.3.14.1 Mail Box Locations

The location should be coordinated with the Postal Services.  All mailboxes should be located in close proximity to the facility they serve.  However, when locating mailboxes, consider the potential for the site element being used as a container for the concealment of explosives, etc.   Consider antiterrorism/force protection requirements for locating similar container types, i.e., trash receptacles which are located a minimum of 10 meters (33 feet) from inhabited buildings and 25 meters (82 feet) from billeting and primary gathering areas (Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) 4-010-01, DoD Minimum Antiterrorism Standards for Buildings, Table B-1).

If group mailboxes are required, provide central locations for them adjacent to hard-surface walkways but not to impede pedestrian movement.

Mailboxes at Barracks will be grouped at one end of the building and the design/type of box will be coordinated with the Postal Services.  Mailbox locations will be covered and the structure will comply with the standards for the Visual Zone that the structure is located in.
