11.3.17 Flag Poles
11.3.17.1 Flagpole Location

Only one flagpole is authorized per activity. No American flag shall be displayed on any flagpole other than the Main Post Headquarters (Building 1430) on Fort Carson and the Main Headquarters (Building 300) at Pinon Canyon Maneuver Site (PCMS), in accordance with AR 840-1 0, Chapter 2-2b. Activities must possess an approved DA Form 4283 and approved Directorate of Public Works dig permit before starting construction. Maintenance of the flagpole is the responsibility of the activity or current occupant. Flagpoles are authorized for the following activities on Fort Carson and PCMS.

Battalion/squadron (or higher) level headquarters.

Directorates.

Major tenant activities headquarters.
11.3.17.2 Flagpole Design

Flagpoles shall be freestanding and not attached to any structure. The number and size of flags flown at one time shall not exceed manufacturer's recommendations. The largest flag flown at any time shall not exceed 4'x6.' All flagpoles will meet the following requirements:

Twenty feet maximum height from surrounding ground level.

Poles to be brushed natural aluminum finish.

Poles to be "cone shape" or tapered from top to bottom.

Six inch maximum ball size at top.

Lightning protection shall be provided per manufacturer's instructions.
