11.3.2 Tables

Locate tables together with seating that is oriented to the users’ needs of socializing, relaxing, or eating in less formal spaces with a pleasant setting and attractive view. 

11.3.2.1 Table Location

Small groupings of tables should be placed within proximity of recreation or food service facilities and other strategic locations around the base.  Where possible, they should be grouped with other site furnishings and placed adjacent to major pedestrian activity nodes.  These groupings should be located on hard pavement areas adjacent to walkways.  Incorporate tree plantings, overhead trellis structures, pavilions or gazeboes within these areas to provide shade and spatial definition.  Tables are to meet ADA requirements.  50% of all tables in a location are to be ADA accessible, but no less than two (2) shall meet ADA requirements when two (2) or more are provided.  40% of all accessible tables, but no less than two (2), are required to be connected to outdoor recreation areas by an accessible route.

A partial listing of typical locations is given here as a minimum; table placement should not be limited to only the areas mentioned.  The areas are:

• A minimum of one (1) table with seating shall be located in courtyard areas, and within forty feet (40’) (12.19 m) of memorials, monuments, and static displays where pedestrian or visitor traffic dictates the need.

• A minimum of one (1) table with seating shall be located within thirty feet (30’) (9.14 m) of major pedestrian activity nodes where volume of user traffic dictates the need.

• Numerous tables with seating shall be located within fifty feet (50’) (15.24 m) of individual recreation type building facilities, picnic areas, parks, and groups of outdoor recreation fields, particularly recreation areas where large groups of players or observers congregate frequently.

• One (1) table with seating shall be located within thirty feet (30’) (9.14 m) of all children's playgrounds.

• One (1) table with seating shall be located in or near all other activity "nodes," where a consistent concentration of pedestrian traffic and outdoor use dictates the need.

Tables shall not be located in view at the entrances to major administration facilities.

11.3.2.2 Table Design

11.3.2.2.1 Level 1 Tables

Level 1 tables shall have a formal, substantial design level and shall be used for all tables located in the Installation Administration & Support Visual Zone D.  This type of table shall typically be seven feet (7') long or octagonal 67.5” in diameter.  The base/supports shall be reinforced pre-cast concrete with an exposed aggregate standard finish of crushed limestone and natural sand, coated with a clear acrylic sealer.  Color of the end panels shall be a natural warm gray.  The seat and table top shall be a smooth precast panel with a clear acrylic sealer.  Precast panel is to be a warm gray color.  All metal hardware and fasteners exposed to view shall be steel, painted FSC #30111 (brown) with a matte (low-luster) finish.  All tables should be constructed to accept an umbrella.

11.3.2.2.2 Level 2 Tables

Level 2 tables shall be a less formal design and shall be used for all tables in Logistics and Industrial Visual Zone A, Unit Operations and Maintenance Zone B, Recreation Visual Zone E, Airfield Visual Zone F, and Training and Open Space Visual Zone G.  This type of table shall be constructed out of vinyl-coated steel with table and seats in an expanded steel mesh.  The base is to be of a 1.5” heavy-duty, galvanized frame coated black.  The table is to be a 46” square table with four seats.  The table top and seat color is to be green throughout Fort Carson.  Brown can be used in Zone B3, Unit Operations and Maintenance Zone south of Prussman Boulevard.

11.3.2.2.3 Level 3 Tables

The level 3 tables may be used as a substitute for the level 2 tables if other recycled site furnishings are being used in the immediate area.
