11.4.2 Vocabulary-Communications

A common language has been created for establishing a signage system.  The different components that create the sign package have been named and referred to within the total signing system.

The creation of a “signing language” helps generate a unified bond within sign types that make up a signing family.

• Reference

• Information/Message:  what the sign is trying to relate to the passerby.

• Presentation:  how the sign is mounted.

• Architectural Influence:  any type of base or other element associated with the sign.

• Graphic Architecture:  how the information/message is configured on the sign
