11.4.7.5 Temporary SignsWheeled electrical signs and other temporary type signage (to include motivational signage) will have an attractive presentation. Although signage colors are not dictated, colors used should create an attractive appearance. Temporary landscape elements should be used whenever possible. The actual sign and siting will be approved by the Public Works Director. No sign of this type will be left in place for longer than three (3) months. If needed for longer than a three month period, the sign request should be resubmitted to the DPW as either a continued temporary sign or permanent sign. Temporary signage is restricted to gate entrances to Fort Carson and at MWR facilities. Temporary signage can also be located next to housing area entrances adjacent to housing village signage. As an exception, temporary “welcome back” signage can be placed by family members and friends of returning deployed Soldiers on and along the fence when entering Fort Carson at Gate 4 (B-Street gate), vicinity the stoplight at the bottom of the Academy Boulevard off-ramp. Approval is not required. Signage can remain in place for up to 7 days, but must then be removed. Temporary signs can be of several types. Those smaller signs affixed to wood or metal posts, and hand-placed in the ground, are not authorized. Such signs can be seen in abundance off-post and, if placed on-post, will significantly contribute to “sign clutter” around the installation. Written requests for exception to this restriction must be submitted to DPW for review and subsequent forwarding to the Garrison Commander for approval. All such signs so approved will be permitted to remain in place only for up to 30 days, then must be removed. Plastic, commercially-made signs, while allowed, are restricted and controlled. Such signs are normally affixed to fences and buildings, and are normally displayed for a maximum of 90 days. Any agency wishing to place such a sign should contact the Master Planning Section of the Directorate of Public Works (526-3038/526-4265) for further guidance and authorization to place. |
