11.4.7.7 Directional Signs

These signs provide motorists and pedestrians directions to certain administrative, recreational, and operational support facilities located on the installation. Thus, the legibility and placement of these signs, as well as the ordering of information, is critical to their effectiveness. These signs should be placed in central locations and at major decision points along circulation routes. Directional signs will primarily address major, high volume Army support facilities which service both Soldiers, their families, and retirees. Privately-owned facilities such as banks, credit unions, etc can also be included on directional signs after approval by the Garrison Commander. These signs are designed to include the following:

11.4.7.7.1 Typeface
  • Lettering is self-adhesive backing material.

  • Helvetica medium upper and lower case.

11.4.7.7.2 Arrow
  • Place at beginning or end indicating direction.
11.4.7.7.3 Color
  • Panel:  dark brown.

  • Lettering:  white reflective.

  • Post:  dark brown.

  • Exposed panel backs and edges:  dark brown.

  • All paint:  gloss.

11.4.7.7.4 Materials
  • Panel:  double-face aluminum; .080" thick minimum.

  • Frame:  aluminum

  • Foundation:  concrete pier or direct burial
