11.5.13 Light Poles

Light poles should be consistent and provide uniformity throughout the installation.  The pole height shall be determined by their intended function as shown below.  The light fixture size should be proportional to the intended pole height.  Fusing is needed in all underground conductors at pole bases.

Two basic pole types shall be used, both of which are metal.  Wood poles shall not be used for mounting of exterior lighting fixtures.

Pole P-1 shall be a round tapered type pole made either of aluminum or galvanized steel.  Where aluminum round poles are used, the finish shall be mill finish brushed aluminum.  Where galvanized steel round poles are used, the poles shall be painted colors as required in these guidelines.  Galvanized poles, which have not been painted, shall not be permitted.

Poles used for traffic signals shall be steel, semi gloss black finish, Federal Color 27038, Arapaho County, CO standard

Pole P-2 shall be a square non-tapered pole made of aluminum with a dark bronze anodized finish.
