B.3.25 Insulation Requirement

Insulation standards shall be as follows for regular conditioned space (68 F winter, 78 F summer). Buildings or parts of buildings conditioned to different temperatures shall have insulation increased or decreased appropriately.

  • Walls: R-19

  • Roof/Ceiling: R-30

  • Floor (over unconditioned space): R-1 9

  • Slab perimeter or below ground masonry (to 36" below grade): R-1 1

  • Insulation levels may be traded off (e.g. increase roof insulation while reducing slab perimeter insulation) assuming such tradeoffs don't increase overall U-value of facility.

  • Glazing shall be double pane with thermal break frame, maximum total U- value = 0.5.
