B.7 Requests

B.7.1 New Signage

  • To request a new sign fill out a DA Form 4283 work request form and provide to the Customer Service Branch of the DPW. The DPW Master Planning Office is the approving authority for all new signs, except where noted in this IDG.  Requests to change existing signage can be done through the DPW Service Order Desk by calling 719-526-5345.  Disapproval of requests has been delegated to DPW, only on extremely rare and special occasions will waivers be brought to the Garrison Commander for approval.

  • Public Works approval is required prior to installing, painting, revising, relocating, or expanding any sign.  No approval is required to perform normal maintenance and repair of a conforming sign or to change a message on a sign or marquee specifically designated for this purpose.

B.7.2 Canopies

Canopies referred to in this section are those constructed with metal framework and covered with fabric such as canvas.  

AUTHORIZATION:

Canopies are authorized over the main entrance to all community service type facilities on Fort Carson and the Pinon Canyon Maneuver Site (PCMS). Community Service facilities will be determined by the Garrison Commander (GC).  

GENERAL GUIDANCE:  

  • All canopies shall be designed and constructed IAW manufacturer's instructions to withstand weather conditions at Fort Carson or PCMS.  

  • No self-help designed/ constructed canopies are authorized.

  • Canopies are authorized for one main entrance per building. Additional canopies will be approved by the Directorate of Public Works (DPW).  

  • Current occupants of the facility in which canopy is attached are responsible for maintenance of the canopy. Maintenance on damaged canopies shall be performed immediately by a professional canopy manufacturer.  

  • Once a canopy has been installed on a facility, it shall remain with the facility. This includes framework and fabric. Incoming units/activities shall be responsible for having lettering changed by a professional canopy manufacturer.  

  • Activities shall possess an approved DA Form 4283, DPW dig permit and approved color selection from the DPW before starting construction.

SPECIFICATIONS: 

  • Canopy size and shape will be approved by the DPW.

  • Canopy color shall be forest green or as approved by the DPW. 

Manufacturer's warranty on fabric shall not be less than five years. Warranty on workmanship and frame work shall not be less than one year.
