Command Sergeant Major Steven O. Green entered the United States Army in February 1987 and completed Advance Individual Training at Fort Eustis, Va. As an aircraft fire control systems repairer and later reclassified as a Black Hawk crew chief.

Throughout his military career, he has held numerous leadership positions from squad leader to command sergeant major.

His assignments include: Team leader (1987-1989), 2nd Squadron, 6th Cavalry, Illeshiem, Germany; squad leader (1989-1991) 1st Squadron, 17th Cavalry, Fort Bragg, N.C.; squad leader/platoon sergeant (1991-1994) 9th Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment; platoon sergeant (1994-1995) 4th Battalion, 228th Aviation Regiment, Honduras; Platoon Sergeant (1995-1999) 2nd Battalion 3rd Aviation Regiment, Fort Stewart, Ga.; senior drill sergeant/first sergeant (1999-2002) 1st Battalion, 222nd Aviation Regiment, Fort Eustis, Va.; first sergeant (2002-2003) 1st Battalion, 2nd Aviation Regiment, Camp Page, Korea; first sergeant (2003-2004) 2nd Battalion, 3rd Aviation Regiment, Fort Stewart Ga.; student (2004-2005) Sergeants Major Academy, Fort Bliss, Texas; first sergeant/support operation sergeant major/command sergeant major (2005-2007) 3rd Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; command sergeant major (2007-2010) 1st Battalion 13th Aviation Regiment, Fort Rucker, Ala.; command sergeant major (2010-2012) 3rd Battalion, 159th Aviation Regiment, Fort Campbell, Ky.

Green has completed four combat tours in support of Operation Desert Shield/Storm, Operation Provide Hope in Somalia, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation Medal with four bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Achievement Medal with four bronze Oak Leaf Clusters Good Conduct Medal (eighth award), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal (government of Saudi Arabia), Southwest Asia Service Medal with three Bronze Stars), Kuwait Liberation Medal (government of Kuwait), National Defense Service Medal with one Bronze Star), Meritorious Unit Award, Army Superior Unit Award, Master Aviation Crewmember Badge, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, Drill Sergeant Badge, and a Gold Medal for the Order of Saint Michael.

Green's military education includes the Warrior Leader Course, Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course, Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Course, United States Army Sergeants Major Academy (Class 55), Command Sergeants Major Course, Battle Staff NCO Course, Airborne School, Master Fitness Trainer Course, Air Assault School, Combat Lifesaver Course, and the Drill Sergeant School.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Excelsior College, Albany, N.Y.
