Colonel David L. Grosso, the Fort Carson garrison commander, previously served as the deputy commander of the 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) at Fort Carson. He enlisted into the Army in January 1981 and served seven years as a Soldier and noncommissioned officer with the 2nd Battalion, 75th Infantry (Ranger) and the 10th and 11th Special Forces Groups (Airborne). He was later commissioned into the Army as an infantry lieutenant through the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) at the University of New Hampshire in 1989. He is a graduate of the U.S. Army War College Fellowship Program at Denver University, the Army Command and General Staff College, the Infantry Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, the Army Airborne School, the Army Ranger School, the Army Special Forces Qualification Course and Special Forces Officer Qualification Course, the Special Forces Advanced Reconnaissance and Target Analysis and Exploitation Training Course, the Army Pathfinder Course, the Army Jungle Warfare School and the Army Jumpmaster Course.

Grosso's previous assignments include: Rifleman, Radio Telephone Operator and Fire Team Leader in the 2/75 Rangers; Special Forces Engineer Sergeant with Special Forces Operational Detachment-Alpha(SFODA) 315/075, A- 3- 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) and with A CO, 1st Battalion, 11th Special Forces Group; Infantry Rifle Platoon Leader in the 3/47 Infantry; Ranger Rifle Platoon Leader and Company Executive Officer with 2/75th Ranger Regiment; Detachment Commander for SFODA 011 and 033 and Assistant Operations Officer for 1st Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne); Tactical Officer at the United States Military Academy; Special Forces Company Commander of C-2-10 SFG and Battalion Operations Officer for 2nd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group(Airborne); Chief, Current Operations Division and Exercises Division of the J3 Directorate of Special Operations Command Europe; Battalion Commander of the International Special Training Center; Deputy Commander, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division; Deputy Commander, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division; and, Director, Village Stability National Coordination Center, Combined Special Operations Component Command-Afghanistan.

Grosso's operational experiences include deployments in support of : Operation Desert Storm in Saudi Arabia and Iraq in 1991; Operations Joint Endeavor and Joint Guard in Bosnia-Herzegovina in 1995, 1996 and 1998; Operation Guardian Retrieval in Gabon and the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 1997; the Georgia Train and Equip Program(GTEP) in the former republic of Georgia in 2002; Operation Iraqi Freedom I in Northern Iraq in 2003; Operation Enduring Freedom X in western Afghanistan from 2009-2010; and, Operation Enduring Freedom XII in Kabul from November 2011-February 2012.

Grosso holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of New Hampshire, a Master of Science in Leader Development and Counseling from Long Island University and completed an Army Fellowship at the University of Denver with the Korbel School of International Studies.
