No precondition for coming to the IG
"To ask for assistance without fear of reprisal is the right of any soldier, civilian, or dependents seeking IG guidance. After all, problem solving is one of the IGs primary missions."

WHEN DECIDING TO CONTACT YOUR IG
Be sure you have a problem, not just a peeve (i.e. Are cooks preparing lousy chow? ... or was it just one bad meal in the dining facility?
Have you spoken to the chain of command about your issue? (Problems should first be addressed through the chain of command for resolution).
Allow the agency or organization an opportunity to resolve your problem first. (i.e. don't contact the IG until Finance has had a chance to fix your pay problem).

DID YOU KNOW?
IGs are not policy makers. (If a policy is flawed, you can submit proposed changes on a DA Form 2028).
IGs can only recommend, not order a resolution. (Only commanders can order; the role of the IG is to advise the commander).
IGs provide answers to clients and the chain of command while protecting the confidentiality to the maximum extent possible. (Soldiers should not be punished for consulting the IG - - it's a Soldier's right).
