Services provided by this office

Coordinates, conducts and facilitates detailed Pre-Retirement group briefings for all retiring Soldiers (highly encourages spouse attendance.) Briefings are held every 2nd and 3rd Wednesday of each Month at The Freedom Performing Arts Center, Building 1129, Ellis Street (corner of Specker and Ellis), Fort Carson 80913.

Briefing topics include, Retirement Ceremonies, ACAP, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans Affairs, Finance, Tri-Care, Survivors Benefit Plan, and JPPSO.

It is recommended that you attend the retirement briefing at the earliest possible date and no later than two months prior to the start date of your PTDY/Transition Leave.

Spouses are encouraged to attend the Survivors Benefit Plan appointment, Soldier must have Social Security numbers for all family members, bank account information, permanent address for after retirement date, and Divorce Decree (if applicable).

The RSO Office assists retiring Soldiers and Family Members with completion of the DD Form 2656 (Data for Payment of Retired Personnel)

The Survivors Benefit Plans Counselor electronically processes the DD Form 2656 using TRANSPOC to the Department of Defense Finance and Accounting Services, Cleveland (DFAS-CL).

Provides pertinent information on CSB/REDUX.

Processes all Pre-Retirement actions for all Fort Carson Military personnel, to include Active Duty, National Guard, U.S. Army Reserve Officer, Warrant Officer and Enlisted Soldier at Fort Carson, and other States serviced by the Retirement Services Office; Policies and procedures vary and are determined by types of retirement being effected.

Processes retirement actions for Officer and Enlisted Soldiers; advises retirees and family members on all phases of retirement; answers any questions the individual may have in this regard. Explains entitlement of benefits and extent of reserve obligation (Retire Reserve), if applicable; works with individuals to determine appropriate timelines depending on leave to be taken and other factors.

Assists surviving family members of deceased retirees with documentation pertinent to filing claims with other Government Agencies and Retired Pay Operation – Cleveland, OH, and of available benefits.

Prepares Retirement Orders, completes service computations (DA Forms 2339/7301-R, DD Forms 214, and other processing actions for Officer and / or Enlisted to include Active Duty, USAR, ARNG, and AGR personnel.

Assist Retirees with changes to retired pay accounts, and information on the Uniformed Services Former Spouse Protection Act (USFSP).

Assist Retirees and Family Members with death imminent processing, the Survivors Benefit Plan and all applicable benefits due.

Important Vital Information

The Retirement briefing is MANDATORY for any Soldiers retiring from active-duty.

Retirement briefings are held from 0800 thru 1200 hrs on the 2d and 3d Wednesday of each month (except December, 2d Wednesday only). Briefings will be held at The Freedom Performing Arts Center, Building 1129, Ellis Street (corner of Specker and Ellis)

Civilian attire is authorized.
