The Fort Carson Mounted Color Guard
Fort Carson Mounted Color Guard
An eight Soldier unit serves as Fort Carson's ambassadors to Colorado communities and neighboring states. The Mounted Color Guard proudly carries the United States and Army Flags in 1874-pattern 3rd Cavalry Regiment uniforms. They participate in nearly 200 community events and military ceremonies a year. They are highlighted as the focal point for many parades, rodeos, holidays, heritage and community activities by performing any one of their many choreographed routines. Since their inception, they have won over 250 trophies including the 1996 Cheyenne Frontier Days Best Mounted Color Guard and the 2008 National Cavalry Association Director’s Cup for Best Mounted Color Guard.

The Fort Carson Mounted Color Guard was originally organized in 1963 as a 32-man horse platoon and designated Delta 1/10 Cavalry. It served with distinction in parades, rodeos and ceremonies in both civilian and military communities throughout the country. The platoon traveled to almost every state in the union and even visited some foreign countries. In 1978 the horse platoon was ordered disbanded leaving only a mounted color guard to represent Fort Carson and the U.S. Army in the western region.

Commitments to military requirements take priority over off-post scheduling. Scheduling is done on a first come-first served basis.
