Q: What are the Reserve Components (RC), how are they different?


A: There are two Reserve Components in the Army - National Guard (NG) & Army Reserve (AR), both can be mobilized by the President of the United States, but while serving in the NG the State Governor can call you up for State Emergencies.


Q: What amount of money will I receive for transferring from AD to RC?

A: Bonus money depends on Eligibility, MOS skills, length of continued service and Reserve Component of transfer.


Q: Do I keep my AD medical and Dental if I join the Reserve?

A: All RC Soldiers are eligible for low cost coverage under TRICARE Reserve Select & United Concordia.


Q: How does transferring from AD to RC effect my AD Education?


A: You actually plus up your benefits by adding Tuition Assistance, what you purchased or earned on AD is kept.


Q: How am I stabilized from mobilizing with my RC?


A: Upon transferring into the NG each state has a written policy in place for length of stabilization, The AR has a written policy of 24 months.


Q: What if I decide to move out of the state, how does this effect my assignment in the RC?


A: Since the RC system have units that are Conus & Oconus, finding a unit to serve in is an available option.
