CSM Anthony A. Traylor hails from Akron, Ohio, and entered the US Army in September 1986 attending Basic Training at Fort McClellan, Alabama.

CSM Traylor has completed all facets of the Noncommissioned Officer Education System and is an Honor graduate of the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy, Class 55. His additional military schools include: Mountaineering and Survival Course, Air Force Loadmaster Course, Drill Sergeant School, Instructor Training Course, Small Group Instruction Course, Systems Approach to Training (SAT), Supervisor Instruction Course, Maintenance Supervisor Course, and the Equal Opportunity Advisor Course (DEOMI). He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Excelsior College in Human Resources Management.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal (2OLC), Army Commendation Medal (3OLC), Army Achievement Medal (2OLC), Good Conduct Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Drill Sergeant Badge, Driver/Mechanics Badge, and the German Marksmanship Badge (Silver).
