Biography
Command Sgt. Maj. Mark A. Aaron is a native of Camden, Ala. He enlisted in the United States Army Aug. 18, 1987 as a 13B cannon crew member. He completed Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill, Okla., under One Station Unit Training (OSUT). Aaron has held a wide variety of leadership position in the Army from howitzer section chief, platoon sergeant, chief of Firing Battery, first sergeant and operations sergeant major to command sergeant major.
His assignments include: Gunner and Howitzer Section Chief, Battery B, 1st Battalion, 17th Field Artillery, Fort Sill; Howitzer Section chief, Battery A, 1st Bn., 78th Field Artillery Regiment, Fort Sill; Howitzer Section chief, Battery B, 5th Bn., 11th Field Artillery Reg., Fort Wainwright, Alaska; gunnery sergeant, Battery A, 1st Bn., 78th Field Artillery Reg., Fort Sill; chief of Firing Battery, Battery A, 2nd Bn., 11th Field Artillery Reg., Fort Wainwright, Alaska, and Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; first sergeant, Battery A, 6th Bn., 27th Field Artillery Reg., Fort Sill; first sergeant, Headquarters, and Headquarters Battery, 75th Fires Brigade, Fort Sill; operations sergeant major, 3rd Bn., 7th Field Artillery Reg., Schofield Barracks; command sergeant major, 3rd Bn., 7th Field Artillery Reg., Schofield Barracks; command sergeant major, 1st Bn., 10th Field Artillery Reg. Fort Benning, Ga., and command sergeant major, 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team Fort Benning. His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (4 Oak Leaf Clusters) the Army Commendation Medal (8 Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Achievement Medal (15 Oak Leaf Clusters), Good Conduct Medal (8th award), National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal (Numeral 2), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Non Commissioned Officers Development Ribbon (Numeral 4), Army Service Ribbon, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal and the Overseas Service Ribbon (numeral 4).
Aaron's military education includes the Primary, Basic, and Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Courses, First Sergeants Course, Battle Staff course, and the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy (Class 58). He holds a Bachelor Degree in human resources from the University of Maryland. He is a member of the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club, and a recipient of the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara.
