Biography

Lieutenant Colonel Brad W. Wambeke graduated from South Dakota State University as a Distinguished Military Graduate and was commissioned as an Engineering Officer in 1993. After attending the Engineer Officer Basic Course at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, he served as the Assault and Obstacle Platoon Leader for A Co/44th EN Bn. in the 2nd Infantry Division, Republic of Korea. Following his assignment in Korea, he served in the 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson, Colorado, as an Assistant Bn S-3 and company executive officer in the 4th EN Bn. Prior to departing to attend the Engineer Officer Advanced Course, he also worked as the Operations Officer of the Fort Carson Directorate of Public Works.

From 1998 to 2001, he served in the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He was the Battalion Maintenance Officer for the 307th EN Bn. and then Commander of A Co/307th EN Bn. for 22 months. Following company command, he attended graduate school at the University of Minnesota to obtain a M.S. in Civil Engineering and then taught for two years in the Civil and Mechanical Engineering (C&ME) Department at the United States Military Academy, West Point. He also served as the C&ME Department XO during his second year at West Point.

Upon completion of the Command and General Staff College in 2006, he returned to Fort Bragg where he served in the 2nd BCT of the 82nd Airborne Division for two years. He was the XO for TF 1-73 CAV and as they deployed to Iraq with a mission to support Special Operations Forces. He also served for a year as the S-3 for 2-82 BSTB, which included a deployment in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM as part of the surge.

Following his time as an S-3, he attended graduate school at North Carolina State University and obtained a PhD in Civil Engineering in May 2011. While in graduate school, he was selected for battalion command and currently commands Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion, 4th Infantry Division. He was also selected to be a Permanent Academy Professor in the C&ME Department at West Point following battalion command. Previous to command, LTC Wambeke served as an Assistant Chief of Staff for the 4th Inf. Div.

LTC Wambeke is a graduate of the Engineer Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, the Basic Motor Officer Course, the Combined Arms and Services Staff School, and the Command and General Staff College.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (OLC), the Army Meritorious Service Medal (2 OLC), the Army Commendation Medal (OLC), the Army Achievement Medal (OLC), the Meritorious Unit Citation, the Combat Action Badge, the Ranger Tab, the Master Parachutist Badge, Chilean Jump Wings, and the Bronze Order of the de Fleury Medal.
